Carlyn A. Burton

Chair


Carlyn is currently a Patent Attorney with Osha Liang LLP, an intellectual property law firm with offices in Houston, Silicon Valley, Austin, Paris, and Tokyo. Carlyn’s practice encompasses all aspects of intellectual property law with an emphasis on patent prosecution and litigation in the chemical and materials arts.

Carlyn is a native Texan who returned to her home state for law school at the University of Houston after completing undergraduate and graduate degrees in chemistry at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She still maintains strong ties with her alma mater and is currently the President of the Houston Chapter of the Emory Alumni Association. When not at work, Carlyn enjoys spending time in the Heights, where she owns and recently remodeled a 1926 bungalow.

Art Huffman

Vice Chair


Art Huffman is a principal and owner at A. Huffman Associates, an IT consulting and sourcing firm. He has 30 years of experience holding high-level positions in the energy and high-tech industries. Art was formerly the chief information officer for Halliburton Company, one of the world's largest providers of products and services to the energy industry. Art also served as chief information officer for Air Liquide S.A., a global producer of industrial and health-care gases, based in Paris.

Art began his career at Schlumberger where, over 16 years, he held a number of senior positions in the field, engineering and manufacturing organizations. Art holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. Art and his wife Laurie have one grown daughter, Jessica, who also lives in Houston.

John Osha

President


John Osha is a Managing Partner with Osha Liang LLP, an intellectual property law firm with offices in Houston, Silicon Valley, Austin, Paris, and Tokyo.

John's practice includes patent, trademark, litigation and IP counseling with emphasis in the aerospace, alternative energy, automotive, consumer electronics, manufacturing, oilfield, optics, semiconductor, software, and telecommunications industries. John has extensive experience in patent prosecution with emphasis on electrical, optical, and mechanical technologies.

Mr. Osha's practice places special emphasis on counseling relative to management and monetization of complex international IP portfolios. His practice also includes intellectual property litigation, preparation of infringement and validity opinions, interference proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and trademark prosecution. Mr. Osha was previously a partner at Fish & Richardson, P.C. and an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center.

Larry J. Smith

Vice President


Larry is a founding partner in Sound Financial Solutions, L.P., a firm that focuses on creating estate, business succession, investment and retirement solutions for individual clients and their businesses.

He has over 38 years of experience in the financial services field. Prior to Sound Financial Solutions, L.P., Larry was Regional Vice President for CIGNA Financial Advisors in Houston.

A graduate of Bethany College (West Virginia), Larry completed his Masters of Science in Financial Services Degree at the American College in Bryn Mawr in 1991. He has earned Chartered Financial Consultant, Chartered Life Underwriter, Certified Financial PlannerTM practitioner and Accredited Estate Planner designations.

Larry is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, Society for Financial Service Professionals, The Financial Planning Association, National Association of Estate Planners and the Houston Business and Estate Planning Council.

He has authored numerous articles on industry management, was a contributing author for the book, Managing Sales Professionals, and is an adjunct professor at the University of Houston, Downtown.

Larry serves on the Board of Trustees of Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University (TCU) and on the Board of Directors of Comp-U-Dopt. He is the Past President of the Houston Business and Estate Planning Council. He continues to serve in a variety of positions with his Church, Board of the Houston Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, and as a Vice Chairman of the Souvenir Program Committee of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Chrissy Wilson

Secretary/Treasurer


Chrissy Wilson is one of the founding partners of Palermo Wilson & Roth, LLP, a public accounting firm specializing in tax consulting and planning for high net worth individuals, and their related business enterprises. Originally from Dallas, Chrissy graduated from the University of North Texas and earned her CPA certification. She is a member of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Her experience encompasses a significant amount of international tax compliance, representation before various federal and state/local taxing authorities, as well as integrated planning for businesses and their shareholders regarding income tax and estate tax reduction strategies.

Ben Caldwell


Ben Caldwell is Chief Financial Officer at Osha Liang of Houston. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1986 with a Bachelor of Business degree. In 1989 he became a CPA. Ben grew up in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and moved to Houston in 1995. He is married and has 4 children (3 boys and 1 girl) ranging in age from 18 to 11 months. He lives in Cypress, Texas and enjoys spending his free time with his family, outdoor cooking, reading and playing sports.

John Campbell


John Campbell is Vice President of Operations at Aurora Oil and Gas. He has more than 25 years of International and Domestic operations engineering and management experience give solid foundation to lead and manage. He holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.

Angie Halderman


Angie Halderman is a seasoned Information Technology executive at SAP. Angie has over 20 years experience in Fortune 100 business and market development, strategic alliances, emerging technologies, partner marketing, and program management. Prior to SAP Angie has held management positions at Ernst & Young, Compaq Computer, and Halderman Solutions, Inc., providing consulting services to clients including John Deere, Home Depot and Halliburton. Angie also held leadership positions at exchange start-ups including the Vice President of supplier recruitment at Trade-Ranger, a B2B exchange for Oil and Gas, and Industria Solutions, funded by DuPont, CMGI and IBM.

Jennifer N. McCauley


Jenny McCauley joined Southwestern Energy in June 2009 as Senior Vice President of Human Resources. In her current role, she works in tandem with the SWN business leaders to identify, develop and orchestrate people strategies across SWN in the areas of workforce planning, talent management, employee engagement, attraction and retention of the right talent and total rewards.

Immediately prior to joining SWN, Jenny was the Vice President of HR for BG, Americas and Global LNG for two years. Prior to BG, she spent 10 years with JPMorgan Chase in various HR leadership roles in the areas of HR generalist and organizational development and recruiting. Earlier career experience includes Human Resources positions for ARAMARK Uniform Services and Hilton Hotels Corporation. 
Jenny received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana and a Master of Science in Human Development from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Bruce Misamore


Prior to his retirement in December, 2005, and beginning in 2001, Mr. Misamore was Chief Financial Officer, a member of and Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of Russia’s then largest oil and gas company, YUKOS Oil Company in Moscow, which was the 4th largest publicly traded oil producing company in the world.

A 28 year veteran of the oil and gas industry, Mr. Misamore’s prior positions also included Vice President Finance and Treasurer of Pennzoil Company in Houston, various senior financial management positions with Marathon Oil Company in Houston, London and Findlay, Director of Corporate Finance for USX Corporation in Pittsburgh, investment portfolio management for The Toledo Trust Company and teaching in the Finance Department at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). He is currently a member of Financial Executives International and a member of the Board of its Houston chapter.

Julie Mayo


Julie Mayo is a counsel in the Energy and Infrastructure Projects section of Pillsbury with significant experience in a broad range of domestic and international energy, project finance and regulatory matters. Her practice is focused on oil, natural gas and electric power projects and has included matters as diverse as the development of LNG liquefaction and receiving terminal and pipeline facilities, negotiation of complex capacity and commodity agreements, representation of parties in permit applications, administrative hearings and rulemakings in front of Federal and State agencies, mergers and acquisitions and structured financing transactions. Ms. Mayo also spent nearly a year working on-site in the legal department of the global gas group of a major international oil and gas company and was seconded to the legal department of a U.S. LNG import terminal company.

Minal Patel Davis

Executive Director


Minal Patel Davis relocated to Houston from New York City and most recently completed consulting projects with the Natural Resources Defense Council's NY Urban Program's sustainable food initiative and Creative Time, a public arts organization. Minal is also an adjunct professor in the MBA program at the Metropolitan College of New York via their distance learning platform. She earned a BA in Political Science from New York University and a J.D./M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut. After graduating law and business school she joined Ernst and Young as a tax consultant and was also a litigation associate at a law firm.

Minal spent her free time in NYC serving as Financial Secretary of Open Heavens Ministries. She also served as Co-Chair of the Committee for the Future at The New York Women’s Foundation which was recognized by The Manhattan Young Democrats for engendering change for women and girls. She is excited to use her professional and educational experiences to impact Houston area children.

Julissa Guerrero Chappell

Program Director


A communications professional within a cross mix of industries, Julissa Chappell began serving as Comp-U-Dopt's Executive Director in April of 2011 and currently serves as the Program Director. Julissa comes from a long line of family members that have served as foreign missionaries and in various social services which has consequently led her to always being involved in some form of charity work. Prior to joining Comp-U-Dopt, Julissa held positions in newspaper, television, media relations industries and most recently was the Public Relations Director for Catholic Charities. A graduate of Houston Baptist University, and a self proclaimed geek, she is also a professional photographer. Julissa's personal mission in life is to be of service to others using as many "techie" items as possible.
